Numbers in Lithuanian: from 0 to 100

Numbers and digits are one of the first topics you'll encounter when learning Lithuanian. You'll use them every day: your address, phone number, age, and prices at the store.

Let's work through them step by step.

Numbers 0–10

The first ten numbers must simply be memorised:

NumberLithuanian
0nulis
1vienas
2du
3trys
4keturi
5penki
6šeši
7septyni
8aštuoni
9devyni
10dešimt

Numbers 11–19

Numbers 11–19 are formed with the suffix -olika:

NumberLithuanian
11vienuolika
12dvylika
13trylika
14keturiolika
15penkiolika
16šešiolika
17septyniolika
18aštuoniolika
19devyniolika

Note: 12 is dvylika (not dvy-uolika) and 13 is trylika — small irregularities worth noticing.

Tens

30trisdešimt
40keturiasdešimt
50penkiasdešimt
60šešiasdešimt
70septyniasdešimt
80aštuoniasdešimt
90devyniasdešimt

Pattern: tens are formed from the number's stem + -asdešimt (literally "ten"). Exception: 20 is dvi-dešimt (two-ten).

Compound numbers

Compound numbers are said as two separate words:

NumberLithuanian
21dvidešimt vienas
32trisdešimt du
45keturiasdešimt penki

Hundreds

NumberLithuanian
100šimtas
101šimtas vienas
200du šimtai
300trys šimtai

Addresses

In Lithuania, an address is read in parts: street name + house number + apartment number, said separately.

  • Parko gatvė 4–10 → Parko gatvė, keturi, dešimt
  • Bokšto 29 → Bokšto, dvidešimt devyni

How to ask: Koks tavo adresas? — What's your address?

Phone numbers

Phone numbers are read digit by digit or in pairs:

  • 867 741 216 → aštuoni, šeši, septyni — septyni, keturi, vienas — du, vienas, šeši

How to ask: Koks tavo telefono numeris? — What's your phone number?
